306-2 Surface Treatments and Thermal Treatments Materials and Mechanics - Apprenticeship S9
Lessons : 10 h TD : 10 h TP : 0 h Project : 0 h Total : 20 h
Co-ordinator : Sylvie Malo
Prerequisite
basics of Chemistry (course taught in first year)
Course Objectives
Knowing the different possible surface treatments based on chemistry and more specifically oxido-reduction for metallic materials.
Syllabus
- Basics of oxidation reduction: electrochemical cells, electrolysis
- Passivation / corrosion
- Pourbaix diagrams
Practical work (TD or TP)
- industrial applications:
galvanizing and alloyed zinc deposits
nickel plating
chromium plating

Acquired skills
- determine from the Pourbaix diagrams the behavior of metals according to the acidity of the environment
- establish the electrolysis parameters required for the desired deposition thickness
- propose a choice of surface treatment to be made according to the material and the field of use
Bibliography
- Techniques de l'ingénieur
- Electrochimie : des concepts aux applications , Fabien Miomandre et al., édition Dunod
