3MAK8 Materials damage Materials and Chemistry S9
Lessons : 14 h TD : 12 h TP : 0 h Project : 0 h Total : 26 h
Co-ordinator : Sophie Eve
Prerequisite
Non renseigné
Course Objectives
Description of the influence of the environment, the temperature and time one the strength of metals and polymers. Understanding of the effects of the coupling of a material, the different treatments applied during the manufacturing, the applied mechanical stress and a specific environment (agressive environment, cryogenic and elevated temperatures, electromagnetic fields, irradiation,…) on the damaging and the fracture of materials. Evaluation of the stability of the materials properties over time (ageing).
Syllabus
- Stress-corrosion, fatigue-corrosion, fragilisation by hydrogen,... for metals.
- Ageing of polymers : physical and chemical ageing, stabilisation, lifetime prediction.
Practical work (TD or TP)
Application exercices on the choice of materials as a function of the environment in use.
Acquired skills
Understanding of the damage and fracture mechanisms of materials in « agressive » environments. Initiation to coupling phenomena and ageing of metals and polymers.
