Prerequisite
L1 and L2 level classes
Course Objectives
In a large number of industrial and scientific applications, it is necessary to use sensors to measure physical quantities. The sensors used combine both the transducer whose role is to convert the physical quantity to be measured into an electrical signal and a signal acquisition and processing chain. The objective of this course, mainly dedicated to the study of the physical transducer, is to present the sensors most commonly used in the industrial or scientific world. It exposes, from known physical principles, studied in L1 and L2 level classes, several examples of applications. It must allow the future engineer to be able, from a specification, to select the sensor or family of sensors adapted to its application. This course is coupled with courses in signal processing and data transmission.
Syllabus
The course is divided into several distinct parts - General Principles of Measurement and Measurement Systems; definition of the characteristic quantities of a measurement. The rest of the course presents several principles of transducers. This presentation is based on the most commonly studied physical quantities. In each case, the principle of measurement is exposed from known physical laws; the performance of the sensors are specified and examples of applications are presented. Through these various examples, it is shown that a limited number of techniques (optical, mechanical, acoustic, electrical, magnetic) are implemented for all the quantities studied. Three main categories of physical quantities are more specifically discussed: Measurement of mechanical quantities, magnetic sensors, temperature measurement
Practical work (TD or TP)
The purpose of T.D. is to deepen 4 to 5 marketed devices that concretely illustrate the education provided. A practical session is devoted to the implementation of sensors
