Course Objectives
The aim of this course is to strengthen the knowledge acquired in the module “Introduction to e-payments”, in particular the concepts of regulation of monetary systems and the European legislative framework for electronic payment systems.
Syllabus
1. Monetary systems regulation
Detailed presentation of the regulatory mechanisms of traditional monetary systems. The example of the European Central Bank is used to describe the management of a traditional currency. A reflection on the opportunity of crypto currencies, stable coins and local currencies is open with the students.

2. Actors of payement instruments
Presentation of the various industrial and banking sectors linked to electronic payments (smart cards in particular).

3. PSD1 & PSD2 : New actors for payments
Positioning the new actors introduced by PSD1 and PSD2 in the 15-corner diagram. Detail of the functional perimeters of PI (Payment institutions), EMI (Electronic money issuers), PSP (Payment service providers) and TPP (Third Party Provider).

4. Business model and value chain
This section provides an overview of the business model and value chain of payments and withdrawals made with a smart card. Students are introduced to the economic model of a payment instrument.

Knowledge of European monetary regulation and legislative framework allowing payment actors (traditional and new) to develop their activity.
